A basic handheld radio is best. We can provide mentoring to help you select the right equipment for your specific interests.
When does the group meet?
We meet every 4th Thursday at Smithville #2 Firehouse in Smithville, MO. Come learn new skills and prepare for emergency services in your community.
What is a Net?
Nets are scheduled airtime for hams to gather. The nets help prepare the group for emergency services and share information.

How do I get an amateur (ham) radio license?
Pass the Technician exam. We offer study guides and mentors (Elmers) to help you prepare. Contact us to start learning.
Which radio is best for beginners?
A handheld transceiver (HT) is ideal. It is portable, low-cost, and works perfectly for local ARES nets as well as out performing emergency services.
Can I visit without having a license?
Yes! Visitors are welcome. Join a meeting to see gear, meet the team, and get answers in person.
